چکیده

We are given a trajectory T and an area A. T might intersect A several times, and our aim is to detect whether T visits A with some regularity, e.g. what is the longest time span that a GPS-GSM equipped elephant visited a specific lake on a daily (weekly or yearly) basis, where the elephant has to visit the lake most of the days (weeks or years), but not necessarily on every day (week or year). We call this a regular pattern with period of one day (week or year, respectively). We consider the most general version of the problem defined in [8], the case where we are not given the period length of the regular pattern but have to find the longest regular pattern over all possible period lengths. We give an exact algorithm with O(n log n) running time and an approximate algorithm with O( 1 ε n log n) running time. We also consider the problem of finding a region that is visited regularly if one is not given. We give exact and approximate algorithms for this problem when the period length is fixed.

In search of human-associated bacterial pathogens in Antarctic wildlife: report from six penguin colonies regularly visited by tourists.

We investigated the potential role of Antarctic tourism in the introduction of human-associated pathogens into Antarctic wildlife. We collected and analyzed 233 fecal samples from eight bird species. The samples were collected at six localities on the Antarctic Peninsula, which often is visited by tourists. Every sample was investigated for pathogens of potential human origin: Campylobacter jej...

Foraging Ranges of Immature African White-Backed Vultures (Gyps africanus) and Their Use of Protected Areas in Southern Africa

Vultures in the Gyps genus are declining globally. Multiple threats related to human activity have caused widespread declines of vulture populations in Africa, especially outside protected areas. Addressing such threats requires the estimation of foraging ranges yet such estimates are lacking, even for widespread (but declining) species such as the African white-backed vulture (Gyps africanus)....

Detecting Changes in Images of Street Scenes

In this paper we propose an novel algorithm for detecting changes in street scenes when the vehicle revisits sections of the street at different times. The proposed algorithm detects structural geometric changes, changes due to dynamically moving objects and as well as changes in the street appearance (e.g. posters put up) between two traversal times. We exploit geometric, appearance and semant...

Are independent mobility and territorial range associated with park visitation among youth?

BACKGROUND Parks are important for providing opportunities for physical activity among youth. Apart from engaging in physical activity whilst visiting a park, active transportation (e.g. walking or cycling) to parks is potentially an additional source of physical activity. Previous research has shown that a major barrier to young people visiting parks is their inability to visit parks unaccompa...
